All Aboard! — Museum Eliel’s Family Saturday, 26 September 2026

Museum Eliel’s firts Family Saturday of the autumn invites everyone to join a shared boating adventure on Saturday, 26 September!
Designed for the whole family, the event explores the Pielisjoki River, the history of travelling by water and stories about river wildlife through crafts, play and guided tours.

All Aboard! Drop-in workshop for children and families, 11 am–3 pm
Learning space, second floor
At this drop-in workshop in the second-floor learning space, children and families can make their own steamship or sailor’s hat.
The workshop is open throughout the event from 11 am to 3 pm. Young children are welcome to participate with an adult.
The Otter’s Boating Adventure in the River exhibition at 12 noon and 1 pm

Duration: approximately 30 minutes.
These interactive guided tours for children and families explore the Pielisjoki River through stories, activities and games. A lively otter leads participants on an adventure to discover river wildlife and travelling by water.
Boat Traffic on the Pielisjoki River: guided exhibition tour at 2 pm
Rahakamari, second floor
Duration: approximately 45 minutes.
The afternoon guided tour is intended particularly for young people and adults. The tour takes an in-depth look at the River – Nature and history along the River Pielisjoki exhibition and explores the significance of the Pielisjoki River as a trade route, transport route and part of everyday life in North Karelia during different periods.
The guided tour explores topics such as how the Pielisjoki River has served as a gateway to the wider world throughout history, who has travelled along the river and the role that this waterway has played in the development of North Karelia.
The Family Saturday programme is included in the admission fee to Museum Eliel (€12/€5/Museum Card).
The Family Saturdays are monthly themed events featuring a changing programme of activities and experiences for museum visitors of all ages.
