What have you always wanted to know about Joensuu?

The first Eliel Evening Shift of the autumn takes us on a journey through the history of Joensuu! During the evening, participants will explore both the history of the city and Joensuu’s historic Town Hall through photographs and a guided tour. Eliel Evening Shift offers an opportunity to see your familiar hometown from a new perspective. The programme is suitable for both newcomers and long-time residents interested in the city’s past and architectural heritage.

4.30–5.00 pm Travel back in time to Joensuu’s past through photographs from the museum’s collections.

5.00–5.45 pm The guided tour explores the fascinating history of the Town Hall and Joensuu.


The Evening Shift programme begins in Rahakamari on the second floor.

Please note that the guided tour can accommodate up to 40 participants. Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis from 4.00 pm onwards.

The Evening Shift programme is included in the admission fee to Museum Eliel (€12/€5/Museum Card).

Eliel Evening Shifts offer an in-depth look at the history, culture and phenomena of North Karelia. The event is held once a month, on the third Wednesday of each month.

The autumn 2026 Evening Shifts will be held on:

  • 18 November
  • 16 December
